Sparkling Snowflake

Use pipecleaners and beads to make this shimery snowflake.  This is simple enough for a preschool child to do, if an adult helps twist the pipecleaners into a snowflake shape.  You can also use yellow and orange beads to make a star.

 You will need:

Two silver pipecleaners

18 dark blue beads

6 medium blue beads

6 white beads

A small loop of ribbon

Step 1.

Cut two pieces of pipecleaner to 2 1/2 inches long.  Cut one piece 3 inches long.  Cut six pieces 1 1/4 inch long.

Step 2.

Twist the 2 1/2 inch pieces into an X shape.  Twist the 3 inch piece so that the extra length is on the top of the ornament.

Step 3.

Slip three beads onto each of the arms of the snowflake.  Bend the extra length of the longer arm around a loop of ribbon.  If you like the ornament, you can stop now.

Step 4.

Take the short piece of pipecleaner.  Twist one around each arm between the medium blue bead and the clear bead.  Slip a blue bead on each end.  For extra strength, you can put a small dab of glue in each bead before you put it on the pipecleaner.

When we think of Christmas, we think of snow, coats and mittens, crackling fire and hot chocolate.  And in many places, Christmas does fall in the middle of winter.  However, if you live in the southern hemisphere, Christmas falls in the middle of summer.  Instead of sledding and skiing, Australians go surfing and have BBQs and picnics.
